Painting: The Language of Color
with Simon Kogan

By exploring basic materials: colored powder-pigment, adhesive-binder, support- paper, wood, canvas, etc.,  we will learn to understand their character and their relationship to each other.  Introducing paint making in its simplest form and targeting the identity of color will open up new ways of expressing emotion and mood.

Simon teaches the traditional ways of painting used by masters through out history.  We will learn the “structure” of painting, understanding procedure and order. We will begin with a very limited palette of primary colors, slowly adding and changing the combinations to increase the palette. We will work with still-life and controlled light, exploring the importance of temperature, composition, color scheme, fat over lean, glazing… we shall delve into all of it.
